The HMVDB (Herbal Medicine Database) is an educational video project created by herbalist and artist Abbe Findley.  The HMVDB aims to document and highlight the oral tradition of botanical medicine as it is currently being practiced in the 21st century by community herbalists' all over the US and eventually world.  This project has been marinating for years, my first video was with jim mcdonald discussing the uses of Solomon's Seal back in 2015.  Since then I have accrued ~20 videos with many different herbalists.  You can expect to be seeing these videos popping up on here as I edit them throughout the spring.

The inspiration for this project is derived from multiple fields of interest and works.  This includes the early videos filmed by Michael Cottingham of Michael Moore in the field discussing the plants with his students, Alan Lomax's field recordings of traditional music made in America, the Museum of Jurassic Technology, the Library of Congress, the Foxfire Books, the Smithsonian, the Eclectics, Richard Evan Schultes, Wade Davis, Funkadelic, The Situationist International, Fluxus, Ci·né·ma-Vé·ri·té, Studs Turkel, Henriette Kress's Herbal Database, Dr. Dukes Phytochemical and Ethnobotanical Database, early pharmacy museums, libraries, the radio, 7Song's resources and handouts available at 7Song.com, Lorna Mauney-Brodek's resources and handouts made available at herbalista.org, and Michael Moore's extenstive herbal medicine archive available at swsbm.com.  To the dreamers, movers and shakers, and doers in the world, and to those who carry the flame to fight for a world with less human suffering and inequality and one that is richer in love, equality, creativity, and respect for humanity and nature.
